About Second Sight

Specialist expertise where innovation meets evidence

Second Sight is a specialist consultancy working at the intersection of medical devices, clinical research, regulatory preparedness, evidence generation and health innovation.

We help medical-device innovators and health organisations move from a promising idea to credible clinical evidence, regulatory readiness and real-world implementation — with practical, hands-on support grounded in the realities of developing and evaluating health technologies.

Our perspective is rooted in South African and African health systems. We understand both the research environment and the practical journey of health technology innovation, and we connect the two so your work stands up to scrutiny.

What sets us apart

We connect innovation, research, clinical evidence, regulatory requirements and the realities of implementation in local health systems.

Rather than claiming to do everything, we focus on the areas where we add direct specialist value — research strategy, clinical evidence, regulatory and ethics navigation, clinical research systems, health innovation analysis and research capacity strengthening — and help you connect with the right specialists where other expertise is needed.

"The differentiator is understanding both the research environment and the practical journey of getting a health technology into use."

How we work

Specialist depth, honest about scope

We focus on the areas where we add direct value — and we're clear about where we don't. Where functions like manufacturing, distribution or IP management are relevant, we help you understand the pathway, identify what's required and connect with the right specialists.

Evidence-driven

Credible, defensible research and clinical evidence — the foundation regulators, investors and health systems look for.

Practical & solutions-oriented

Hands-on support that turns strategy into documents, systems and plans you can actually use, not just advice.

Rooted in local realities

Strategy grounded in the realities of South African and African health systems, so your pathway to implementation is realistic.

Led by research and innovation expertise

Faatiema Salie founded Second Sight to give medical-device innovators and health organisations specialist support across clinical research, regulatory readiness, evidence generation and health innovation — expertise that is often hard to access, especially for early-stage and private-sector innovators.

She works directly with clients to translate innovation and clinical questions into defensible research and evidence strategies, navigate ethics and regulatory requirements, and strengthen the research systems behind health technologies.

Academic and research mentorship remains a complementary part of Second Sight's work — building lasting research capacity alongside the core consulting focus on medical devices, clinical research and health innovation in South African and African health systems.
